He is starting to get that he has to go IN the potty so I think we are starting to get it. Love all of the advice. We haven't gotten rid of the diapers and I think that is definitely the next step :)Lindshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17200297607504970757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5593969330413749938.post-9139241250908984492010-08-26T22:38:51.362-04:002010-08-26T22:38:51.362-04:00Awww... I am so sorry potty-training is not going ...Awww... I am so sorry potty-training is not going well for you so far. Things just "clicked" with my daughter one day with potty-training. One day she wasn't interested; the next day she didn't have a single accident. Be consistent with it though. Once you decide to start potty training, don't stop. It will send mixed messages to your son. Get rid of all the diapers in the house, and tell him they aren't coming back. (Use pull-ups for naps/bedtime, of course). Let him pee in his underwear all he wants. When he does, don't make a big deal about it or he'll keep doing it because he's looking for a reaction from you. Even a negative reaction from you will satisfy him--he's looking for attention. Just calmy put a new, clean pair on and say, "We go in the potty. Tell me when you have to go." Try a potty timer too. We set Claire's timer to go off once every 45 minutes, and then she had to sit on the potty for at least 2 minutes, even if she didn't go. I rewarded her with M&Ms in the beginning just for sitting on it. Don't beat yourself up over it though. He'll go in his own time. After a while, he won't like the feel of walking around in wet/soiled underwear. Don't beat yourself up over it. You have successfully potty-trained one child, and you'll do it again... he just has to want to do it himself. :)Haileynoreply@blogger.com
